Owned by Samantha van der Merwe, Soaring Spa was always a dream of hers. “I have always wanted to open a place where people could just unwind and recharge,” Samantha said. “Soaring Spa is that place where people are pampered and leave rejuvenated.” The GCN visited the spa for a treatment to see exactly why Thai massage was recommended. Because I am interested in reflexology and the benefits, I opted for the Thai foot reflexology. My therapist, Thembi Mbodlana, greeted me enthusiastically and after filling in a form and taking off my shoes, I was ready to lie back and experience the treatment. Not knowing what to expect, I was surprised to feel pain (not unbearable) in my feet especially when Thembi massaged certain areas. She explained that each part of the foot relates to a part of the body and the pain was as a result of her releasing tension in those areas of the body. The reflexology was an interesting experience and I must say I did feel the release of tension throughout my entire body as if Thembi had been giving me a full body massage. Thembi is a wonderful therapist. She is full of fun and I thoroughly enjoyed my session with her and am contemplating going back for a massage next time. She told me she enjoys her job thoroughly and especially enjoys doing the aromatherapy Thai massage. After my treatment, I was pampered even further with a delicious healthy snack and something to drink which is part of the package.
