Man shot ‘execution style’ in Mamelodi East
Police say the victim was part of a criminal organisation called ‘Zorro’.
Police believe that a who was shot execution style on Saturday, is the second victim linked to a Mamelodi based criminal organisation to be murdered in six months.
Visi Sengalela Mngidi (45) was shot and killed shortly after leaving his house in Mamelodi East.
According to police, Mngidi was travelling in his bakkie when he was shot at with automatic rifles from a white BMW travelling behind him.
The panicked victim attempted to outdrive the BMW but eventually came to a stop on Marishane Street and got out of his car. Gunmen alighted from two white BMWs and shot Mngidi execution style, leaving him to die from his injuries.
Police found 29 empty cartridges and one projectile on the scene of the crime and Mngidi’s bakkie was riddled with bullets on its back and sides.
Police say the victim was part of a criminal organisation called ‘Zorro’ and the second person from the gang to be assassinated.
It is believed that Mngidi was friends with the late Prince ‘Mongol’ Mahlangu who was killed in his car in a hail of gunfire in September last year in Sunnyside.
Mahlangu was reportedly leaving Loftus Versfeld Stadium when the attack happened.
His car was found riddled with bullets after it crashed into a wall and the window of the car’s driver’s side was smashed.
He was rushed to a nearby medical centre but was declared dead on arrival.
Mahlangu was travelling with a female passenger who was not harmed during the incident.
