Man arrested for arson

Primrose police arrest man on charges of arson.

Primrose police arrested a 24-year-old man on Sunday, October 6, on charges of arson.

The arrest was made after the police received a report from someone who claimed that his shack had been burnt down.

The man, who hails from the Marathon informal settlement, explained that he had fought with the man he has accused of burning down his shack, and that, during the fight, the accused threatened to set the victim on fire.

After the fight the victim spent the night at a friend’s house.

The following morning the victim’s girlfriend arrived at the friend’s home and informed the victim that his shack had been burnt down.

Const Style Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police, said: “It was then that the victim reported the threat and the fire and opened a case against the accused, who was tracked down and arrested.”

Maome reminded the community not to take the law into their own hands.

“Community members must report any crimes to the police and allow the law to take its course,” he said.

The suspect was detained at the Primrose Police Station pending his appearance in the Germiston Magistrates Court.
