Humphreys takes over as Ward 20 councillor

Ward 20 has a new councillor to make the area a better place.

Jill Humphreys is the new woman at the helm of steering Ward 20 into better things.

DA councillor Jill won the recent by-election in the ward and is looking forward to making a difference in the area.

She grew up in Namibia and has been married to now-retired airline pilot Keith Humphreys for 36 years.

“I have lived in Bedfordview for all of those 36 years; during this time I have grown to know and love this place,” Jill said.

“This community, with all its eccentricities and divergent nationalities, makes for a dynamic mix.

“Asian, African, Indian, Caucasian — all hues of people and cultures meet, live and socialise in this ward.”

Jill has served on her local Residents Action Group for 12 years and has been largely involved in the security of her suburb.

“I have also worked with Clr Michelle Clarke as her branch chair for the DA and on her ward committee, in the environment portfolio,” Jill said.

“I am a landscaper by profession and have been fortunate to enjoy reasonable success.

“My gardens have been featured on various TV programmes, in mags and in the local press.”

“What do I hope to achieve as a councillor in this region?

“Clr Clarke has blazed a trail that I will do my level best to follow.

“Having worked at her side for many years, I understand the importance of quick reportage, of good relations with the municipal officials, of efficient systems and of not promising what can’t be done.

“I believe in the strength of community.

“I believe in the exquisite balance of nature.

“I believe in the inherent goodness of people.

“I believe in listening without judging.

“Every situation has a history and a context and needs to be properly understood.

“I will do my very best to serve this community.”
