Man found with unlicensed firearm

Man intended to commit crime – says police.

During on a recent patrol in a known crime hotspot, the Primrose police arrested a 38-year-old man.

The suspect, who was arrested on the corner of Beaconsfield Avenue and Dahlia Road, was charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm, when police found a black Norinco, with its serial number filed away, in his possession.

“During his interrogation the suspect alleged that he was in the area to commit a hijacking.

“He claimed that it is the only way he can make a living,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

The man has since appeared in the Germiston Magistrates Court, where his case was postponed for a bail application.
