Cigarettes to the value of R210 000 stolen

No one harmed when shots fired in cigarette theft.

Capt George Raphulu, head of communications for the Germiston SAPS, has confirmed that today (Friday) at approximately 11.30am a delivery truck was robbed.

Six-hundred-and-seven cartons of cigarettes, valued at R210 000, were stolen from the truck.

“The driver explained that he was approached by two unknown men, in Elsburg Road in Elsburg,” Raphulu said.

“The men threatened him with a firearm and forced him into the back of the vehicle.

“They drove to Delville where they off loaded the cigarettes into a white Mercedes, without registrations plates.”

It is reported that shots were fired at the scene, but no one was hurt.

The suspects are still at large.
