Man killed in a tussle with EMPD officer

A man was shot and killed during a struggle for a gun with a metro police officer.

TEMBISA – A 28-year-old man was shot and killed during a struggle for a firearm with a metro police officer in Tembisa on Monday, September 28, The Tembisan reported.

Communications director for Tembisa SAPS Cluster, Captain Manyadza Ralidzhivha said two Ekurhuleni Metro Police officers followed a red Hyundai.

“The suspect’s car skipped a red traffic light and the officers tried to stop him.

“The suspect drove fast to Maokeng section in Tembisa and he was cornered,” Captain Ralidzhivha said.

He said the man exited the car with his hands raised.

“A female metro police officer approached the suspect while he was trying to switch off his vehicle’s engine.

“When she was next to the suspect, he tried to pull the firearm out of the officer’s holster.

“They fought over it, a shot went off and hit the suspect in the stomach. He died at the scene,” he said.
