The latest news and the video footage that is trending on social media indicates that Const Tladi was accidentally shot by another police officer.
On Monday, January 13, the Kathorus MAIL reported on its website that five armed men, who were seemingly hiding outside a petrol station in Katlehong, started shooting and critically injured Constable Tshepo Tladi, in an alleged attempted robbery.
The latest news and the video footage that is trending on social media indicates that Const Tladi was accidentally shot by another police officer.
In that initial report it was said that Const Tladi was rushed to hospital, where he later died. However, the video footage indicates that Tladi died on the scene.
It would appear from the video footage that Tladi stepped in front of his colleague while they were both firing on the suspects. The footage shows the second officer accidentally shooting Tladi in the back of his head at very close range.The footage also reveals that there was an attempt to tamper with the crime scene by one of the police officers.
News24 reported that the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has opened a murder docket.
“The IPID spokesperson Moses Dlamini said the IPID is investigating the case and the investigation might take up to three months,” reports News24.
The Kathorus MAIL will update its reader on the outcome of the investigation.
