Couple barely escape fire

A man and woman barely escape shack fire in the Makause informal settlement.

A 34-year-old woman was recently arrested by the Primrose police on a charge of arson.

It is alleged that the woman set fire to her ex-boyfriend’s Makause informal settlement shack while he and his new girlfriend were still inside.

“The complainant alleged that he and his girlfriend were sleeping when she woke him up in a panic as the shack was on fire.

“They claim they were only just able to break out of the shack before the flames engulfed it,” explained communications officer for the Primrose police Sgt Styles Maome.

Though the couple couldn’t see who had set the fire, they claim that only days earlier the ex-girlfriend had threatened to set fire to the shack after an argument.

The woman was arrested and taken to the Primrose Police Station, where she was formally charged.

“We once again appeal to the community to come forward and ask for help with their relationship problems, and not to go to extreme measures,” said Maome.

The suspect will appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court soon.
