Flying Squad recovers stolen vehicle

The Germiston Flying Squad was on Monday, July 10, patrolling the Katlehong area when they received a tip-off about a half-truck that had allegedly been stolen.

Communications official at Katlehong Police Station, Capt Mega Ndobe, said the members of the Flying Squad followed the tracker signal.

“The tracker signal led them to a house in Silumaview, in Katlehong. On arrival, the police searched the premises and recovered a Kia half-truck which was reported stolen in Kempton Park,” said Ndobe.

He said the police arrested a 54-year-old man for the crime.

“The arrested man was the owner of the property where the vehicle was recovered. He claimed to know nothing about the vehicle,” Ndobe said.

He said the man should have reported to the police that there was an unknown vehicle in his yard.

“On questioning him, the police found that the man was aware of how the vehicle ended up in his yard,” said Ndobe.

The man is expected to appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on a charge of unlawful possession of stolen vehicle.

The investigation is continuing.
