Raquel receives support

Community members attend worthy fund-raising event to assist Raquel.

Fun was had as community members showed their support for Raquel Barnard Stewart’s fund-raiser held at Laerskool Die President, in Fishers’ Hill, last Saturday.

The event was aimed at raising funds for the four-year-old’s medical bills for her much needed heart surgery.

The event was organised by Daleen Vorster and Deon Hyman, the co-owners of Celebrino EventOvasion.

“We knew we had to help the family raise the steep amount needed for the surgery,” said Daleen.

“We took it upon ourselves to organise a fund-raising event and it took a month to put everything together.”

Daleen was pleased with the day’s turnout.

“Thank you to the community members for coming together and supporting this great initiative,” said Daleen.

“It was a good turnout and we appreciate it.”

Raquel’s grandmother, Sandra Barnard, was humbled by the event.

“Daleen has been really amazing. If it wasn’t for her, this day wouldn’t have been possible,” said Sandra.

“I am overwhelmed by the amount of support we received from the community – it is truly amazing.”

The audience was entertained by music organised by local artist Tommy Gloss.

Tommy entertained the crowd and organised the band and more local artists.

Children were also well entertained by the jumping castles and fun activities available on the day.

Daleen said they wouldn’t have been able to organise the event without the help of her team.

“Thank you to the amazing staff,” said Daleen.

“Thank you to the team at Hyundai Germiston who helped sponsor the event.

“We appreciate all the stallholders as well.

“Our greatest gratitude goes to the school for allowing us to utilise their facilities at no charge.

Raffles and auctions were among the activities. The day also saw a cake, with Raquel’s face on it, being auctioned. It was baked by Verny Turton.

The amount raised on the fun-filled day is R35 000.
