SAPS and suspects survive after police vehicle rolled
Eden Park SAPS members who were chasing a hijacked Mazda 3 were involved in an accident along the K146 Road in Thokoza on April 25.
Communications officer at Katlehong SAPS Capt Mega Ndobe said the police were tracking down the hijacked vehicle between Eden Park and Thokoza.
“It is alleged that the police vehicle had three police officers inside and four suspects in the back who were all arrested for being found in possession of dagga. The suspects ranged from 24 to 40 years. At the T-junction stop, the police vehicle lost control and rolled into a drift. Police officers and suspects had minor injuries and were all taken to the hospital for treatment,” said Ndobe.
He went on to add that the hijacked vehicle that the police were tracing was later in the day recovered abandoned in the Kwanele Section in Katlehong.
“The vehicle’s battery and inside mirror were stolen. There were also damages inside the vehicle where, we believe, the suspects were trying to search for a tracking device,” Ndobe said.
He added that the vehicle was hijacked a night before in Thokoza from a police officer who is stationed at Sandton LRC.
“The same police officer was robbed off his cell phone and a ring,” added Ndobe.
Ndobe said no one has been arrested. He pleaded with anyone who has any information regarding this to contact their local police station or alternatively phone 08600 10111 or use the SMS crime line number: 32211.
The investigation is ongoing.
