Helping drug addicts reclaim their lives
The Dukathole youth raises a red flag on drugs and gender-based violence.
Founder of Future Fighters Community Empowerment Bongani Ngonyama held a drug awareness event in Extension Nine in Dukathole last Saturday.
The event was a collaboration involving the Dukathole Crime Prevention Youth Desk, as well as the Germiston SAPS.
Drug-related issues were dissected, including bringing awareness to gender-based violence in the community.

Tabea Buti, a social worker who is part of Helping drug addicts reclaim their lives, and Matete Mmola from the MEC of Community Safety’s office engaged with the community members to find the root cause of why nyaope had claimed the lives of many Dukathole residents.
“Extension Nine was the favourable location to host this event because the target market is in this area,” said Const Maxwell Mabunda, communications officer for the Germiston police.
“Nyaope has stripped a lot of the youth of their lives and it now owns their existence.
“We have launched this drug awareness campaign to extend a helping hand to those who are actively seeking help.
“We have also reached out to those who are strung out.”

Future Fighters Community Empowerment pledged to help drug addicts in the community reclaim their lives either by placing them in rehabilitation centres or getting them in touch with the Department of Social Development.
“By hosting this event in their backyards, we are showing drug-addicted community members that we are accessible to them,” said Bongani.
The Germiston police motivated the youth to join the local youth desks in their area, as they believe it would keep them active in their communities and avoid mixing with the wrong crowds.
