Young women encouraged to support each other

An event focusing on empowering and motivating young girls to make positive life choices was held at Boksburg Child Welfare in Vosloorus, Sotho Section, on August 25.

According to Eucharist Mazibuko, the community development worker, the main purpose of the event, under the theme “Encourage Sisterhood”, was to address issues that affect women.

“We also helped young girls and women by addressing how they need to support each other throughout life’s difficulties. We want them to stop being jealous of each other,” Mazibuko.

HIV/Aids related issues were discussed, as well as human trafficking and ways to ensure a victim’s safety.

The young women were treated to a buffet breakfast and a lunch after the programme was completed.

They were also provided with feminine hygiene gift packs. Some of the products were donated by Zaz Molo, Mrs SA finalist, who was one of the guest speakers together with Miss Reiger Park Lerice Lyle.

The rest of the hygiene products were provided by the welfare.
