Murder suspect sentenced to life imprisonment
It is alleged the deceased was sitting with her friends when an unknown man appeared and fired several shots, fatally wounding and murdering Charmaine Beige.
A murder suspect was, on July 5, sentenced to life imprisonment in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court for murdering Charmaine Beige at Mshayazafe Hostel on November 3, 2017.

The suspect then fled the scene and the victim died on scene.
Communications officer at Thokoza SAPS Capt Buyisile Mvelase said Det Const Mandla Ntshangase investigated the case when he received information about the suspect, who was arrested in Mahlabathini in KwaZulu-Natal for possession of an unlicensed firearm.
“Ballistic reports concluded that the catridges found in Mshayazafe Hostel match that of a gun found in possession of a suspect who was arrested in KZN,” said Mvelase.
She said the suspect, Nhlakanipho Zulu (29), was charged with murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The suspect was sentenced as follow:
• Count one: Murder – life imprisonment
• Count two: Possession of an unlicensed firearm – 15 years’ imprisonment
• Count three: Unlawful possession of ammunition – two years’ imprisonment
Mvelase said count two and three will run concurrently with the sentence on count one.

She said: “We take our hats off in respect for Const Ntshangase for the sterling work he has done. It is this kind of effort and dedication which brings the community to trust in the police,” said Mvelase.
