New firefighters ready to serve the community

DEMS is thrilled with the appointment of 50 new firefighters.

Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services’ (DEMS) emergency division has announced the appointment of 50 new firefighters to augment the numbers at different fire stations across the metro.

Due to vacant spaces created by promotions and resignations in the work force, the metro filled the empty vacancies by absorbing the department`s reserve force members into the team in permanent positions.

They were all given their rank markings and welcomed to the service by DEMS executive manager for operations Lifty Ngoepe, who was standing in for the divisional head of emergency services, Mhlengi Makhubalo.

Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services recently welcomed 50 new firefighters to its ranks.

The appointments came into effect from November 1 and the new members underwent induction and orientation processes.

With these new appointees, the division will be able to fast-track the services rendered to the community of Ekurhuleni and beyond.

“The entire group resonated commitment and dedication to their new roles,” said William Ntladi, district manager media liaison for DEMS.

“The intake of new firefighters is in line with the City’s vision to empower the youth, specifically women, in the employment domain.”
