load-shedding has become costly

The ongoing load-shedding saga by Eskom has begun to cause a lot of discomfort for thousands of households in the townships.

Not only has it become extremely costly for some families who are now faced with the problem of having to regularly replace damaged household appliances, but the whole Eskom issue is no longer a joke to be taken lightly.

The sad part is that households also have to face the dangerous prospects of having to deal with the criminals who are taking advantage of homes under darkness during this continuous electricity outage.

What happened to promises made by President Cyril Ramaphosa last year that there would be no load-shedding during the festive season? I know friends and relatives who have suffered financially; during the December holidays, one of them had her house broken into by criminals during load-shedding.

Who can these families turn to for compensation to replace their damaged property?

With the cost of living growing daily, having to replace domestic appliance is just an additional burden for many families in the townships. Appliances, such as television sets and other electrical household goods cost more than an average family can afford and some of these goods actually cost far more than their original price, when replacing them.

Please Mr Ramaphosa, we voted for you because we expected a better life for all, but all you have given us as consumers in the country is the misery of having to live in fear under perpetual darkness.
