A sad farewell to Winnie Haveloh

Former mayor of Germiston dies at the age of 90.

Winnie Haveloh, a long-standing resident of Parkhill Gardens, died peacefully on February 13 at the age of 90.

She had a full life and will be remembered for serving as an independent councillor in the Germiston Council between 1977 and 1995.

She was elected and served as the mayor of Germiston between 1990 and 1991.

Winnie served on many committees, boards, civil society forums and charity organisations.

Some of the committees included the Federation for Nursing, SPCA, Germiston Child and Family Welfare and the Germiston Society for the Advancement of Performing Arts.

After her retirement, she continued to work in the community and to keep the council accountable.

One of her recent highlights was attending the November 2019 council meeting and meeting the executive mayor of Ekurhuleni, Mzwandile Masina, in the mayor’s parlour.

Sincere condolences go to her life partner, Eddie Drewnicki, her daughter, Lanette, and two grandsons, Dylan and Julian.
