Elsburg businesses help those in need

The group donated 100 food parcels to 100 families in Elsburg.

During these difficult times of the Covid-19 pandemic South Africans have become even closer despite social distancing.

Small businesses within communities are stepping up to assist those in need in the communities they serve.

One of the major issues in disadvantaged communities is hunger, and Elsburg is one of those communities suffering.

Local spaza shops saw the need and decided to step in and assist.

A spaza shop owners’ group called Bangladesh Business Community of Elsburg donated food parcels to the needy last week.

The group donated 100 food parcels to 100 families in Elsburg.
Community leader Prince Rulashe said the families were identified by the community development worker for Ward 39, Jane Sibiya.

“Jane works with the community and knows all those in need in Elsburg.

“We saw it fit to ask her as due to the work she does in the community, she knows which families are in dire need of assistance,” said Prince.

He said the families were very grateful for the parcels because lockdown has been really difficult for them.

“As the community of Elsburg we send our gratitude to the Bangladesh Business Community of Elsburg and urge other local businesses to assist where they can,” said Prince.
