28 new vehicles for EMPD

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) has received a fleet of 28 new extra vehicles to service communities in neighborhoods around the City.

According to EMPD spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng, the allocation of the vehicles is aimed at increasing law enforcement visibility and rapid response to crime scenes.

On May 11 at around midday, the EMPD Specialised and By-Law Enforcement units received 28 new vehicles. The handing over was conducted in Kempton Park at the Dries Niemandt Stadium,” said Mokheseng.

Chief of Police Jabulani Mapiyeye, joined by his management team, was at the ceremony to receive the 13 Isuzu light delivery vehicles and 15 VW Polo sedans. All the vehicles have been branded with EMPD shields.

The new fleet will be utilised at vehicle accident sites, rapid deployment to crime scenes as well as for the enforcement of municipal by-laws. The vehicles will also be deployed for visible policing and serving communities in all aspects of curbing crime, among other things,” said Mapiyeye.

Mokheseng said the hand-over ceremony was highly appreciated and has boosted the morale of officers.
