Feeding the Nation with Sahiba Foundation

The food parcels were donated to the people of Marathon informal settlement.

Sahiba Foundation celebrated the power to transform the world and make an impact on August 11 after KPMG and other sponsors donated 67 food parcels and 67 children’s meals.

Chantelle Fourie from the foundation said for Mandela Day they identified 67 families and 30 orphans to assist with food parcels, meals and warm clothes and blankets.

This was made possible due to the help of sponsors like KPMG, Albany Bread Johannesburg and private individuals.

“The identified orphans each received a gift and a personalised message of encouragement. For some of these children, it may be the first time receiving anything hand-picked just for them,” said Chantelle.

The food parcels were donated to the people of Marathon informal settlement.

Head of communications at KPMG SA Dudu Ndlovu said they were delighted to partner with the Sahiba Foundation on Mandela Day through their Audit Business Unit.

“Our business is part of and has a direct impact on society. It is therefore important we demonstrate our responsiveness to the needs of our communities,” said Ndlovu.

Ndlovu added this was one of many initiatives their firm participates in to make a difference within communities.

“Our response to the needs of communities aims to create meaningful impact through donations such as this one, but also advancing time and skills, financial and other resources essential for nation building.”

Chantelle said the foundation is based in Primrose and was founded to assist vulnerable women across the country, specifically the mentally challenged, disabled and abused.

“We are also involved in several projects which have impacted more than 200 women from across South Africa, including Khayelitsha in the Western Cape, Mogwase in North West, Kwamhlanga in Mpumalanga and Venda.”

Due to the lockdown and the hardship it has brought for so many people, the foundation, as part of its Lets Feed The Nation Drive has been distributing food parcels in informal settlements and townships since mid-April.

The foundation still welcomes donations. For more information email sahibafoundation@gmail.com or call 078 738 5888.
