The Ekurhuleni municipal landfill in Elandsfontein is currently engulfed in smoke and flames.

About five fire engines are currently on site to prevent the fire from spreading throughout the dumping site. They have been on the scene since about 2pm.

Clr Wendy Morgan advised nearby residents to keep their windows closed for health reasons. Motorists are advised to be cautious or preferably avoid Johann Rissik and Main Reef roads due to dense smoke in the area.
