Department of health present Covid-19 intervention plan

Department of health makes efforts to raise awareness about Covid-19 as they screen and test residents for COVID-19, HIV, TB and Chronic conditions.

Ekurhuleni Health District South initiated the ward-based Covid-19 intervention plan at Chris Hani mall in Vosloorus on December 9 to address health issues and minimise the spread of the virus.

The intervention plan is not limited to Vosloorus as the Department of Health along with the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs will also visit other areas around Ekurhuleni.

The event aims to inform people about public health programmes and to also screen and run test for Covid-19, HIV, TB and other chronic conditions.

Nkosingiphile Mahlaba from Vosloorus Extension 16 described the intervention plan as great.

“It gives people a break from going to the clinic because it is far to travel. Now they can just go to the mall for health services,” he added.

“People should care about their health because if you don’t look after yourself you are putting everyone else at risk,” said Mahlaba.

Anna Rracheku (74) said she has been avoiding to go outside her yard since the initial lockdown early this year.
She criticized the government for not initiating follow-ups and checking up on people.

“The last visit by the Department of Health was around March this year and they only came once,” said Rracheku.

Nomvula Ramakgofu said the service is of great assistance, as some people are preparing to leave for the festive holiday.

“It’s great that people can test for Covid-19 especially those who will be visiting other provinces. I will not be travelling but I always ensure to practice precautionary measures. I always have my mask and sanitizer whenever I go out,” said Ramakgofu.

Tlhoni Khauoe of the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs explained that part of the program is to identify challenges raised by community members.

The services rendered will continue until December 18. Other areas to be visited include:

Naledi Shopping Centre Vosloorus – December 10

Spruitview Shopping Centre – December 13

Natalspruit Taxi Rank Katlehong – December 14
