Power cut disrupts services at Spruitview Post Office

“We are in urgent discussions with the landlord to resolve the issue,” said the spokesperson of Post Office SA, Johan Kruger.

Customers have been left frustrated as they could not access services for two weeks following power cuts due to outstanding arrears at the Spruitview Post Office located at Lifestyle Shopping Centre.

When Kathorus MAIL visited the post office, we found that there was no queue; customers were referred to other post offices while workers were sitting in the dark.

One of the customers Karabile Moloto, who was there to renew her licence disk, said she was very disappointed as she drove from Benoni because most post offices are not operating.

A man who operates a car wash business near the shopping centre told Kathorus MAIL that people hardly complained about this post office.

He said he started witnessing challenges after the July unrests, where most post offices were not reopened, which made the Spruitview branch the only accessible post office.

This has affected residents from this community because they now have to wake up very early to queue since people from other areas rely on this post office, which is now no longer operating.

Johan Kruger of Post Office SA told Kathorus MAIL that the post office is in a rental dispute with the landlord, who cut off the electricity.

“We are in urgent discussions with the landlord to resolve the issue. Payment for the branch has been prioritised and we will reopen it as soon as possible.”
