Suspect arrested for business robbery in Rietfontein

Primrose police apprehended a business robber in Primrose on January 2.

The 41-year-old was arrested at a store on Rietfontein Road during a police patrol.
A security guard stopped the police to inform them about a crime taking place.
Primrose SAPS corporate communications officer Sergeant Styles Maome said when officers arrived, the suspects ran away, leaving one behind who took the wrong direction.
“Police drove around and spotted the suspect. When he saw the police, he tried to hide to no avail,” said Maome.
“He was identified by victims as the first suspect to enter the shop and point a firearm at them.

“They alleged that he was accompanied by two other suspects. He was arrested and detained at the Primrose SAPS pending his appearance in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court,” said Maome.

Maome said small cash-based businesses that deposit money regularly at the bank should use these tips to minimise the chances of becoming a victim.
• Alternate the days and times that you deposit cash.
• Never make bank visits public, even to people close to you.
• Do not openly display the money you are depositing when you stand in a queue.
