Terrorising rapist pleads guilty
Evidence presented in the case of the Ekurhuleni serial rapist Lumka Phakathi at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court has sent shivers among shocked women around Kathorus.

Phakathi was facing 203 charges for preying on teenage girls and young women in their mid-teens in Ekurhuleni. Of those, 55 had been withdrawn according to the National Prosecuting Authority.
Pakathi’s victims told the court that they were attacked while they were at their homes, while others were accosted while walking in remote parts in the neighbourhood.
A resident of Daveyton, Phakathi stunned the court on October 4 when he pleaded guilty to the remaining 148 charges. Phakathi revealed gory details of his sordid sexual crimes.
He described to the court in detail how he preyed on his young victims, sexually violating them. Last Tuesday the confessed serial rapist from Ekurhuleni pleaded guilty to all charges he is accused of which include rape, sexual assault, kidnapping, robbery with aggravating circumstances, theft, and the possession of an unlicensed firearm.
Some of these victims were girls between the ages of 12 and 20. His favourite hunting grounds for his unsuspecting victims were Daveyton, Putfontein, Benoni, and Crystal Park.
Phakathi ‘s reign of terror lasted for nine years from 2012 until his arrest in March last year.
His leg was amputated following a shooting incident with the police after he was finally cornered at his home in Etwatwa.
