Ekurhuleni finance adjudicator gunned down

Simnikiwe Mapini was shot and killed at a traffic light near Rand Airport.

Simnikiwe Mapini, who was employed as an adjudicator in the City of Ekurhuleni Finance Department, was shot and killed near Rand Airport in Germiston while travelling with a colleague on Friday, December 8.

A memorial service is scheduled to take place at the Germiston City Hall on December 13.

COE spokesperson Zweli Dlamini said the Ekurhuleni colleagues had stopped at a red traffic light when two armed men allegedly exited another vehicle and started shooting at the deceased before fleeing the scene.

“It is unclear what the motive was. Mapini was declared dead on the scene. His colleague was not injured in the incident,” said Dlamini.

“This is a sad incident and one that has shocked the entire municipality.

“This was a hard-working young man, and our condolences go to the family, friends and colleagues during this trying time,” said Dlamini.

The police are investigating a case of murder.
