Life sentence for 63-year-old in granddaughter rape case
The Springs Regional Court handed a life sentence to a man for repeatedly raping his granddaughter, in a case that underscores the fight against GBV in Ekurhuleni.
The office of the Ekurhuleni District Commissioner has welcomed the recent conviction and life imprisonment of a 63-year-old man found guilty of raping his 12-year-old granddaughter.
Warrant Officer Majang Skalkie stated that the Spring Regional Court ruling delivered on October 16 marked a significant step toward ensuring justice for victims of GBV and sexual abuse.
Skalkie said that the man began raping the victim during the Covid-19 pandemic, when her grandmother was at the doctor’s or collecting her grant. He would stay behind with his granddaughter and assault her.
