10 drunk drivers arrested in Germiston and Elsburg during EMPD crackdown

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) arrested ten motorists for driving under the influence in Germiston and Elsburg as part of a targeted anti-drunk driving operation.

On December 16, officers from the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Germiston Precinct arrested ten intoxicated drivers during a focused anti-drunk driving operation in Elsburg and Germiston central business district (CBD).

Two motorists were apprehended in Elsburg after testing over the legal alcohol limit using breathalysers.

Later in the day, eight more drivers were arrested in Germiston CBD during a large-scale stop-and-search operation.

During this operation, officers checked 761 vehicles and pedestrians and issued 61 written notices for various traffic violations.

All 10 suspects were detained and are expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court in the coming days. The EMPD reiterated its commitment to keeping roads safe and urged motorists to avoid driving under the influence.
