The suspect reportedly fled the scene immediately afterwards, prompting the opening of a case in Germiston.
EMPD officers later received information regarding a blue BMW believed to be linked to the incident. On Thursday, the vehicle was detected by a licence plate recognition (LPR) camera travelling through Alberton.
Officers intercepted the vehicle on Voortrekker Road, where the driver was questioned. During the interview, the man allegedly confirmed his involvement in an altercation with the Traffic Warden.
The suspect was arrested at the scene, informed of his constitutional rights and detained at Germiston Police Station. He is expected to appear before the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on a charge of assault.

The EMPD condemned acts of violence against law enforcement officers, warning that such behaviour undermines public safety and the rule of law.
“Assaulting officers while they are carrying out their duties is a serious criminal offence,” the department said.
Motorists and community members have been urged to respect traffic wardens and all law enforcement officials, with the EMPD reiterating that intimidation or violence against officers will result in firm legal action, including arrest and prosecution.
