EMPD seizes hawkers' goods in Katlehong sidewalk operation
The EMPD confiscated goods from non-compliant hawkers during a by-law enforcement operation aimed at clearing pedestrian walkways near Sam Ntuli Mall in Katlehong.
The EMPD Bylaw Compliance and Enforcement Unit conducted a bylaw enforcement operation at Tugela and Pongola streets in Katlehong on September 1.
The operation, carried out between 09:00 and 13:00 near Sam Ntuli Mall, aimed to clear the sidewalk, which hawkers had occupied to trade their goods, creating an obstruction for pedestrians.

“During the operation, candle holders, a box of steel wool, a small braai stand, basins, buckets, a bag of cell phone pouches, a bag of screen protectors, toilet paper, buckets of biscuits, black chairs, a bag of salt, potatoes, lettuce, a bag filled with stripped plastic, and a black sack of electric plugs and scrubbing brush were confiscated from non-complying hawkers and taken to the Boksburg EMPD pound for safekeeping,” said EMPD spokesperson Chief Superintendent Kelebogile Thepa.
“More follow-up operations will be conducted to ensure that the area stays safe and clean so that pedestrians will also be able to walk freely,” Thepa said.
