Mayor Xhakaza warns residents as illegal dumping and structures face action
The CoE is taking a firm stance against waste, illegal dumping and unlawfully built structures, as teams clear streets and the municipality enforces by-laws.
The CoE is intensifying efforts to maintain a clean, safe, and law-abiding environment. Waste management crews are on the ground across multiple regions, removing litter, clearing swivel bins and tackling illegal dumping in informal settlements.
On 28 January, teams in Benoni cleared Range View Road at Emandleni in Watville.
In the north, crews in Kempton Park, Isando and the Edenvale CBD picked up litter and cleared illegal dumping.
In the south, Bedfordview, Alberton, Germiston, and Primrose were targeted for round collection services and removing illegal dumping, including the Makause informal settlement.

At the same time, Mayor Nkosindiphile Xhakaza warned those flouting the law.
The city is cracking down on illegally built structures, including long-standing unlicensed businesses, such as a cash-and-carry in Etwatwa.
Despite repeated municipal visits urging compliance, the business has operated without a licence or approved building plans for years.
The city obtained a court order to demolish the building.
The MMC for Development Planning and Real Estate, Nomadlozi Nkosi, confirmed that illegal structures will be demolished across Ekurhuleni to ensure compliance with by-laws and safety.
The city urges all residents and business owners to comply with waste management rules and by-laws to avoid enforcement action.
