Dinwiddie resident demands better service delivery

The state of the area is shocking and power outages seem to have become a norm.

Dinwiddie, Kingston Avenue residents are demanding better service delivery for their area.

Resident Sharlene Poonsamy said the state of the area is shocking and power outages seem to have become a norm.

“We were without power for seven days and no one even informed us what the problem was.

“The councillor also said they did not know what the problem was.

“When we called the call center our calls were getting dropped.

“This is unacceptable we need accountability,” said Poonsamy.

She said it is not fair to residents to be suffering from service delivery issues when they pay for their service.
“We pay for our service but we are not getting the service we deserve.

“We’re already adjusting our lives for load-shedding but if you don’t inform us about power outages you are inconveniencing us as some of us work from home,” said Poonsamy.

She said power issue has multiple impacts on residents.

“I have a generator but I cannot run it 24/7. Petrol is expensive. What about those who had to throw away food?

They don’t have generators,” said Poonsamy.

She said the area seems to have deteriorated over the years.

“Simple things like trimming trees, potholes, refuse collection, it’s a mess. Trees have grown to the point that they touch electrical lines and when it is windy they touch cable and trip the power.

“These are simple things that should not even become an issue,” said Poonsamy.

She said residents are feeling like the CoE is not properly looking after the area.

“We pay for our service and we deserve service delivery and maintenance of the area. The state of the area is also affecting our property value. All we ask is service delivery,” said Poonsamy.

An inquiry was sent to the City of Ekurhuleni about the state of Dinwiddie and service delivery delays.
