BCC Football Club mourns the late coach

Big G is remembered as someone who dedicated his life to football and the development of aspiring soccer players.

BCC Football Club is mourning the death of its vice-chairperson Gerald George Habib affectionately known as Big G.

He was born on February 15, 1959 and died on July 4.

He joined BCC in 2009 and coached Easterns in 2009/10 following his tenure in Germiston.

“As a coach, he didn’t just connect. He inspired. He was committed to the club and the development of the players.

“He didn’t only coach football but he developed characters in every player he coached,” shared the club.

He will be missed for his invaluable contributions and his vast knowledge of the game and the significant role he played in the Easterns LFA.

Big G’s charismatic personality and unwavering love for football, especially his devotion to Arsenal, made him a beloved figure within the club.

He was approachable, always willing to listen, and ever ready to help.

“Big G always assisted players from disadvantaged backgrounds, and pushed them into sport and to stay out of trouble.

“He would always take as many players as he could fit and more into his car to and from matches and overall being the coach everyone loved,” added the club.

The BCC community has been deeply affected by Big G’s passing with the club stating that members, players, coaches and management staff have been hit with huge grief and sadness.

“Big’s Gis presence extended beyond his role as a vice chairperson, he was everyone’s friend. As a club, we will get together and discuss how we can honour him.”

The club’s message to his family:

“On behalf of BCC, we want to thank G’s family for sharing him with us for all these years, BCC was his second home. Our sincerest condolences go out to G’s family and friends, a great man gone too soon.

“His legacy will live on in those he coached. G was so passionate about football that we know all those who were coached by him will never forget him.”
