Primrose Youth Desk improves skills among youngsters

“I am to empower the members to believe they are at the forefront of change and solutions they need to see in their communities by the end of these sessions.”

The Primrose Youth Crime Prevention Desk participated in a one-day skills training workshop taught by Nosiphi Hani at the Primrose Methodist Church.

The goal was to equip the participants with the knowledge and skills to serve the community better.

The participants learnt how to deal with children, students and the community.

According to Hani, the Youth Desk should be respected as part of the law enforcement agencies because it serves as the community’s eyes and ears for the SAPS.

Akin to the CPF, the Youth Desk keeps an eye on crime in its neighbourhoods. It is at the forefront of youth issues and interacting with young people.

“We must encourage young people to refrain from drug use and criminal activity.

“However, we also have the advantage of collaborating with community stakeholders, including clinics, NPOs, churches and schools by directly addressing challenges impacting young people,” said Hani.

“My final stop in the Germiston region was this one. In Khathorus, I will train the Youth Desk staff,” said Hani.

“I am to empower the members to believe they are at the forefront of change and solutions they need to see in their communities by the end of these sessions.

“The important role the youth can play is to have the youth of those communities provide details of what is affecting their youth, be it unemployment, drugs, teenage pregnancy or even crimes,” Hani stated.

“We must lead by example and serve as role models for other young people in our communities,” said Pitsoane.

“We learnt about the projects the Youth Desk can do and how it will holistically help our communities.

“The training equipped us to serve our community better, and we will have a better-organised organisation from here on,” said Pitsoane.
