Rand Water confirms emergency pipeline leak affecting Germiston, surrounding areas
Rand Water has announced an emergency pipeline failure on its O2 pipeline in Lower Germiston, impacting water supply to several reservoirs and potentially leading to low pressure or outages in the Germiston area. Technical teams are on-site working to repair the leak.
Rand Water has confirmed an urgent leak on the O2 pipeline in the Lower Germiston area, discovered on June 17.
The incident has caused significant disruption to the water supply across several areas.
According to a statement from Rand Water, the severity of the leak prevented a safe reduction of pressure, making it difficult to immediately assess the full extent of the damage.
As a result, pumping at the Palmiet Booster Station has been reduced, and the affected section of the pipeline has been isolated.
“Technical teams are on site and working urgently to complete the necessary repairs,” Rand Water stated.

The disruption is expected to affect several key Rand Water reservoirs, including Northridge, Klipfontein and Airfield.
Consequently, water meters in the wider Germiston area and other regions supplied by these reservoirs may experience low water pressure or complete outages.
Rand Water apologises for the inconvenience and assures residents and stakeholders that every effort is being made to restore normal water supply as soon as possible.
