Youth career expo in Germiston boosts skills and job access
Transnet teams from various departments to engage face-to-face with the youth
Transnet recently hosted a career expo in Germiston to empower youth.
The event was part of a nationwide rollout by Transnet, dedicated to the unemployed youth of the community, offering them direct access to career guidance, employment opportunities, and skills development resources in Transnet.
Held under the theme ‘Skills for a Changing World – Empowering Youth for Meaningful Economic Participation’, the expo was designed to connect young people with real, practical opportunities within Transnet’s vast operations.

The theme resonates deeply with the historical legacy of June 16, 1976, reminding all present of the courageous youth of Soweto and calling today’s generation to rise with purpose and possibility.
“We are truly excited to be able to host this expo, especially during a month dedicated to the youth.
“Let us not only remember the courage and sacrifice of those brave youth but also renew our collective commitment to empowering today’s generation for a brighter future,” said Milisa Nduku, Transnet spokesperson.
The event brought together Transnet teams from various departments to engage face-to-face with the youth.
People management specialists guided job seekers on how to access the Transnet job portal, offering practical insights into navigating available vacancies across all divisions.
Supply chain management officials educated aspiring entrepreneurs on how to access procurement opportunities and apply for both short- and long-term tenders. The focus was on nurturing small and medium enterprises within local communities.

The Transnet Academy shared valuable information on a wide range of development programmes, including apprenticeships, bursaries, graduate training, and technical skills pathways in engineering and logistics.
The expo also introduced the Click and Learn platform, a digital access point for youth to find Transnet opportunities directly from their mobile phones.
“This platform is here for young people, and we encourage them to utilise it. It can be a start of something greater for their future,” said Nduku.
