Johannesburg issues alert over firefighter recruitment scams

The City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (CoJEMS) urges applicants to remain vigilant and report any fraudulent activity during its firefighter recruitment process.

The CoJEMS is currently conducting physical fitness assessments and interviews as part of its ongoing firefighter recruitment drive.

CoJEMS has issued a stern warning to the public about recruitment scams.

The City emphasises that it does not charge applicants any fees for employment opportunities, interviews, or placements.

“No City official, employee, or representative is authorised to solicit money or any other benefit in exchange for employment or preferential treatment during the recruitment process,” the City said in a statement.

Applicants and the public are urged to be alert and report any individual or group requesting payment for employment opportunities with CoJEMS.

Suspected cases of fraud, corruption, or unethical conduct can be reported immediately to the Group Forensic and Investigation Service (GFIS) Anti-Fraud and Corruption Hotline at 0800 002 587.

The City stressed its commitment to transparency, fairness, and integrity in all recruitment processes and reminded applicants to rely only on official City communication channels for accurate information.
