Gauteng education system back online after SA-SAMS outage

Schools can resume the issuing of reports.

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has confirmed the full restoration of the South African School Administration and Management System (SA-SAMS), bringing relief to schools, learners, and parents across the province after a recent technical disruption.

The interruption, caused by the temporary unavailability of the Citrix environment supporting the system, had affected access to critical learner administration records and delayed the printing and issuing of report cards in several public schools.

With the system now fully operational, schools can once again access SA-SAMS and resume essential administrative processes, including the printing, verification, and distribution of learner report cards.
Gauteng MEC for Education, Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Lebogang Maile, welcomed the restoration and thanked school communities for their patience during the disruption.

“On behalf of the Gauteng Department of Education, we wish to thank our school communities for their patience during this technical challenge. The restoration of SA-SAMS means schools can now continue with the important administrative work of finalising and issuing report cards without further interruption,” said Maile.

The Department has already communicated with affected schools to ensure the immediate resumption of report card processing.

School principals and administrative teams are now working to clear any backlog and normalise reporting processes as quickly as possible.

SA-SAMS, a national system administered by the Department of Basic Education, plays a critical role in managing learner information and supporting school administration. Provincial departments depend on its stability to ensure smooth school operations.

The swift restoration of the Citrix environment has enabled schools to regain access and continue their work with minimal further delays.

The GDE has advised schools to report any recurring technical issues without delay. Schools can contact the GDE Service Desk on 011 843 6716 or email GDEITServiceDesk@gauteng.gov.za for urgent assistance.
