Protea colours for local karateka

Named as number one in kata all styles (boys 10 to 11 years old) by Karate SA, Cameron David is headed for the Commonwealth Games this November.

Clad in his Protea colours, which he received in May, Cameron David travelled to Botswana in June, where he represented South Africa in the Africa Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 Tournament 2018.

He won gold for kata in the tournament and his performance placed him in the number one ranking for kata all styles (boys 10 to 11 years old) by Karate SA.

David and his team (Karate South Africa) were also ranked number one in unison all styles.

He continued his winning streak last month when he won the Goju African Championship for kata and unison at the African Goju Ryu Karate Federation.

To round off this year’s tournaments, last Monday, David was invited to represent South Africa at the Commonwealth Games in Durban this November.

He’ll also be travelling to Malaysia, next September, to represent the country in the World Goju Ryu Karate Championships.
