How your football club can participate in KLFA League
To join the league clubs have to take part in the monthly meetings.
Kathorus MAIL had a chat with Katlehong Local Football Association (KLFA) chairperson Bassie Makhalima (57) and deputy chairperson Themba Madinani (43) to break down requirements for joining the league.The KLFA officials explained the purpose of the association is to support and promote local football while creating opportunities for players and coaches to advance their career.
Makhalima, who is a former player of Germiston Zebras, said he started playing in the KLFA league before they changed its name.
The league was previously known as Germiston District Football Association.
“I started as an executive in 1999 when he became part of the coaching structure but that journey ended because of lack of funds,” said Makhalima.

“That is when they initiated KLFA and I was appointed as the chairperson. I love football and I have been in this environment for years,” he said.
The chairperson said the development of local football is visible as they start developing players from the ground level.
The players start in the u-11 junior level and as they grow they move to other divisions like u-13, u-15, and u-17 until they make it to the super league, he added.
How can football clubs join KLFA?
To join the league clubs have to take part in the monthly meetings.
KLFA hosts monthly meetings at Sejabulile Secondary School at 754 Moleleki, Katlehong, at 8.30am.
The date for the upcoming meeting is announced at the end of every meeting, but usually it is held every third week of the month on Sundays.

What is required?
Makhalima said players need to have a birth certificate. They will be placed according to their age group.
For example, players who play in the u-11 division have to be under 11 years, not over.
Players who are leaving their clubs for another club need to obtain a clearance certificate.
The teams are expected to contribute an affiliation fee to be a member in good standing. The affiliation for u-11 is R250, u-13 is R300, u-15 is R350, u-17 is R700 and the super league is R1 660.
What are the prizes players receive?
Juniors clubs in the top three receive medals and when the league is sponsored they receive kits and playing equipment.
How do clubs get promoted from the super league?
Madinani explained all clubs play for the whole season and the number ones in all 13 LFAs will qualify for play-offs.
The best two teams will be promoted to the Castle League.
