Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) Track and Field Commission hosted an open meeting on August 29.

The meeting, held at the CGA Boardroom at Germiston Stadium, was an administrative meeting aimed at engaging with clubs, athletes and parents ahead of the 2026/2027 track and field pre-season.

The agenda points included, but were not limited to, pre-season fixtures, qualifying standards, rules and regulations, and other important administrative information relating to the upcoming season.

Pre-season is mainly for primary school development age groups from seven to 13 years old.

Over the years, CGA has had great athletic talent coming out of these development age groups.

They therefore called on all clubs to send athletes in these age groups to come and compete.

While the track and field pre-season looms in the near distance, the CGA Cross Country Championships delivered grit, glory and provincial pride recently.

CGA successfully concluded the provincial cross-country season in style at the Provincial Championships at Germiston Sports Grounds in collaboration with Cool Running Athletics Club.

From the first gun to the final finish, athletes from across Central Gauteng took on a challenging course, showcasing endurance, determination and the competitive spirit that continues to shape the province’s athletics landscape.

“We have witnessed great performances and determination from all our athletes,” said PR and communications coordinator Nongcebo Siziba.

“The championships were well supported by athletes across various age categories with a total of 1 200 athletes taking part on the day with a clear aim of securing their space in the provincial team.

“The atmosphere that the Cross Country supporters created on the day was unbelievable, a pure athletics festival with families and fellow athletes cheering towards the finish line during every race.”

“With the Provincial Championships concluding the provincial cross-country season, attention will now turn to the National Championships in Pretoria,” said Siziba.

CGA is expected to once again send a strong team to the National Championships.

Siziba said the Cross Country Commission commended all the clubs who encouraged and supported their athletes towards cross country participation.
