Toyota Prius
Toyota’s hybrids
Toyota is arguably the most well-noted producer of hybrid vehicles, mostly because of its famous Prius, which in its first generation was the transportation of choice for many important public figures and celebrities. The Prius became the poster child for Eco-friendly driving since the original made its worldwide debut in the year 2000. Now though Toyota has a range of hybrid models, including the new Prius.
The most affordable Toyota hybrid for sale in South Africa is the Yaris Hybrid, a car that allows the new fuel-saving technology to be available to a more broad audience. The Yaris makes use of an efficient 1.5-litre four-cylinder motor that is supported by a battery pack which allows it to achieve a claimed fuel consumption figure of 3.6 litres/100km and also makes it exempt from CO2 taxation.
For those looking for a hybrid with a bit more space than the Yaris, there is also the Auris hybrid, which makes use of a 1.8-litre naturally aspirated motor and battery pack for a total system output of 100kw. This makes for a fuel consumption figure of 3.9 litres/100km.
The latest Prius represents the pinnacle of Toyota’s current hybrid-producing prowess. With a super-slippery body that cuts through the air, a more lightweight body and improved interior quality as well as a better driving experience. Powering the Prius is a combination of an electric motor and a frugal 1.8-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. The combined output equates to 90kW while the fuel consumption and CO2 figures are 3.7 litres/100km and 86 g/km respectively.
