Come ‘Leeuloop’ with Robbie Wessels

Popular Afrikaans singer to wow the audience at the Big Top Arena.

Enigmatic South African performer Robbie Wessels will unleash his biggest hits on stage at Carnival City.

Fans can sing and foot-stomp along to his most popular songs at the Big Top Arena on May 25.

Catch Wessels as he revives on stage songs like Hou vas jou matras, Waar lê jy vanaand?, Verbode vrugte, Leeuloop, Asseblief my life, The coach’s speech and All Blacks vs All Blacks.

One lucky fan can win the chance to Leeuloop with Wessels on stage at the Big Top Arena.

“Submit a short video clip of yourself doing the Leeuloop to our Facebook page and that could be you,” said Michelle Smith, the marketing manager for Carnival City.

Videos can be uploaded to Facebook at www.facebook.com/CarnivalCitySA.

The winner will be announced on May 22.

Wessels is one-of-a-kind with a special ability to make people laugh, as well as encourage deeper thinking.

Humour is definitely one of his strong points and it is this combined with his more soulful side that makes him one of South Africa’s most endearing artists.

He was born in the Free State where he grew up on a farm near Kroonstad.

He matriculated in the Western Cape at Hoërskool Strand and got his diploma in drama at the Tshwane University of Technology in Pretoria, Gauteng.

In 2002, he became known as the character Poena in the popular TV series Gauteng alêng-alêng and in 2005 he surprised the country with his talent as a singer and songwriter with the album My Vissermanvriend se Pa.

This album has sold 120 000 copies.

In 2006, he released his second album Halley se Komeet and the massive hit song Leeuloop was used by Vodacom for their advertising campaign and suddenly the whole country knew who Robbie Wessels was.

He has since released three other albums.

Wessels’ songs are all original and written from personal experiences.

On his journey through life, he has met many interesting people who contributed to all the stories he tells with so much compassion through his music.

“I’m a quiet guy who loves my country, my family and a glass of red wine every now and then.

“Afrikaans music is one of my passions and I hope I can make a contribution through my music.

“It is a pleasure to perform for the country and its people,” he said.
