Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic and the national lockdown measures it prompted, Mitsubishi Motors South Africa launched three models namely; ASX, Outlander and Eclipse Cross. As lockdown measures relaxed, MMSA hosted a variety of special offers and plans to introduce new models to its extensive line-up.

According to Mitsubishi Motors SA, customers can expect a new Triton variant known as the Xtreme to arrive as early as July 2020 and will soon be followed by an updated Pajero Sport as well as a brand-new Pajero derivative. Also on the books for the Mitsubishi line-up is the highly anticipated Xpander model which will make its first local appearance in the early stages of 2021. The latter comes in the form of a seven-seat MPV which will feature a 1.5-litre petrol engine coupled to either a manual or automatic transmission and will be exclusively available in 4×2 specification. The new Xpander model has already started its homologation process in preparation of its local launch early next year.

First to make its appearance since the national lockdown is the 2020 Mitsubishi Triton Xtreme which will be sold in limited numbers and will only be available in 4×4 Double Cab automatic specifications. The Xtreme will slot in above the current 4×4 automatic flagship model and will feature an array of upgrades valued at around R100 000 but will only retail for R40 000 more. The local introduction of the Triton Xtreme will soon be followed by an upgraded Pajero Sport. The updated model will include a new front grille design, incorporating the Mitsubishi Dynamic Shield while the new Exceed model will be offering more technology on the interior.

“The reopening of business this week as South Africa entered Level 3 of the lockdown allowed MMSA to come to the rescue of its loyal SA customer base with a variety of value-added special offers. This includes a no-deposit offer on various models, while we are rounding up orders from before and during the lockdown. For the immediate future, we are very excited about launching the Triton Xtreme in July, followed by the enhanced Pajero with the new 4×4 Exceed added to the range in South Africa before the end of the year,” Nic Campbell, General Manager of Mitsubishi Motors South Africa (MMSA).

The Japanese manufacturer is has announced that they are planning to expand its model offering by introducing five new SUVs in the next five years. Two all-electric SUVs are also on the cards and forms part of Mitsubishi Motor Corporation’s long term strategy.

“We are very excited about launching these new models in South Africa in 2020 as they will have a host of upgraded equipment and new features that we will unveil closer to launch, including new technologies and improved value for money for our customers thanks to more and better equipment included in the price,” concluded Campbell.
