Armed robbers get away with large amount of cash

All suspects got away and fled the scene in two Hyundai Elantras, one was maroon and one was white.

An armed robbery took place outside of Alberton Mall after 5 pm on November 16.

According to Tyrone van der Merwe, sales director from CPS Security, a cross-pavement robbery took place where robbers took a large amount of money from Fidelity Cash Solutions guards.

Cross-pavement robberies can be described as incidents where the money is intercepted as it is carried to, or loaded on a stationary armoured vehicle or as it is offloaded from a stationary armoured vehicle. This occurs when the armoured vehicle is targeted in transit.

The guards were on their way out after collecting cash from Springbok Pharmacy to the van when suspects approached them. They disarmed the guards.

One of the Fidelity Cash Solutions guards was treated by paramedics after he was hit in the face with a firearm.
