Truck drivers shot on N3 freeway
Capt Thivhulawi Tshilate from Heidelberg SAPS said a 66-year-old truck driver was shot and sustained gunshot wounds on December 7 along the N3 freeway in Spookbrug Heidelberg South.
The driver was driving a white Scania truck with two trailers along the N3 freeway towards the Johannesburg direction.
When the driver passed Spookbrug in Heidelberg, he noticed a silver-grey Toyota Hilux moving very slowly in the same direction. When the truck driver overtook the vehicle, one of the occupants in the Toyota started shooting at the truck driver.
The truck driver was hit on the right thigh and chest. He kept on driving to Heidelberg CBD where he stopped for assistance. An ambulance was summoned and the driver was taken to Heidelberg Hospital for medical treatment.
Suspects are unknown.
In another incident on December 8, a 31-year-old truck driver was driving a green Mercedes-Benz truck along the N3 freeway in Spookbrug from Johannesburg to Durban when unknown suspects, also in a silver-grey Toyota Hilux, fired shots at the truck.
The truck driver continued driving until the N3 freeway towards Weighbridge where he stopped. The truck had a bullet hole on the driver’s side. No one was injured.
An attempted murder case docket was opened for investigation. The motive for the shootings is unknown.
