Rand Water implements innovative technology
Rand Water has implemented state-of-the-art satellite technology to detect leakages on its pipelines to reduce water losses and increase operational efficiency.
The acquisition of the satellite technology forms part of the organisation’s strategic objectives to implement efficient methods of detecting leaks that are non-intrusive and non-disruptive to Rand Water’s operations.
The satellite technology will play a vital role in preventing the loss of millions of megalitres of water as a result of leaking pipelines.
Rand Water, through its Innovation Hub, has acquired the technology and had already conducted a pilot project on its pipeline network, which commenced in November 2019.
The technology detects water leaks by analysing spectral images that have been captured by satellites.
The acquisition of the satellite technology indicates Rand Water’s commitment to digital transformation that will assist in saving clean water.
