HEIDELBERG – Shocking fatalities on nearby roads for the past three years led to a decision by Lesedi Local Municipality’s (LLM) Safety and Security unit and other stakeholders to conduct a road safety awareness campaign in Ratanda on August 3.
The R549 Road between Shalimar Ridge and Ratanda and the R23 Standerton Road have been mentioned on road safety statistics as high accident zones.
According to a media release by LLM, “The successful implementation of this programme would see a reduction in fatalities on the roads as well as an increase of awareness among all road users about the importance of safety on the roads.” Speaker of council for Lesedi, Tabiso Moremi said: “It is an important day for Lesedi and everywhere in South Africa. We hope this process will reduce deaths on the roads. This is a call to end the carnage on our roads. We also want to highlight the difficult process of dealing with accidents by various stakeholders and want to thank them for their dedication.”
