Private contractors have started today with removal of refuse in Heidelberg

Lesedi Local Municipality has employed private contractors to remove refuse.

Lesedi Local Municipality (LLM) has employed private contractors to help with refuse removal. LLM issued a statement on
December 11 saying that the waste management services employees have embarked on a strike.
This comes after refuse bags were piling up in the streets of Heidelberg since November 12.
According to Ayanda Makhanya (municipal manager) verbal and written instructions have been given to such affected employees to desist from this form of strike. “The municipality still reserves its rights to approach the Labour Court for an interdict in this regard to compel such employees to abstain from such actions.
“LLM must accentuate that we remain committed to providing you with efficient and effective service delivery options,” Makhanya said.
